Gambit Out Of X-Men First Class
Gambit has a brief appearance this weekend in the Wolverine movie. I know, from the trailers you probably thought he was the second lead. Nope, word around the web from people who’ve seen it is that he’s barely involved and in it for no particular reason. Well actually there’s probably a reason, just not one that has anything telling a good story.
It’s all about spin-offs. Fox is still exploring the possibility of making a Gambit spin-off movie. If you’re a fan of the character, better hope it happens because it’s probably the only way you’ll see him again. The other mutant team-up flick they’re working on is X-Men: First Class and producer Lauren Shuler Donner confirmed to IESB that they’re leaving him out of that film’s young mutant storyline cast.
The studio still hopes to create spin-offs though. In addition to the Gambit solo flick, there’s also talk of a Deadpool solo movie. Deadpool is the character you’ve seen played by Ryan Reynolds in the trailer who by the way, if the rumors are correct, also is barely in the movie and has no other purpose than as a fanboy courting gimmick.
Here's a quick reminder of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine version of Gambit:
