Another year, another attempt from George Romero to scare the crap out us using some zombies. The Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, etc. director is beginning production on an untitled thriller, in which the dead will most certainly make an appearance.

Variety made the official announcement of the project today, but MovieSet.com actually had an interview with Nicolas Chartier, president of Voltage Pictures, who gave some additional info on the project. Given that the Variety piece said the movie would take place on a remote island, where people's dead relatives come back as zombies, it's no surprise that this generation of zombies will show some new talents. "We're shooting underwater zombies," Chartier said with a grin. "They're swimming, grabbing people's legs, pulling them down. It's a lot of fun."

Variety's announcement included the names of a handful of unknown actors who have been cast, including Alan Van Sprang, Kenneth Welsh and Kathleen Munroe. Sounds like they'll all have to practice their swimming, and a select few will get to practice zombie swimming.
