Get The Full Story Behind Doc Brown's Cameo In This Million Ways To Die Exclusive Clip
A Million Ways To Die In The West is out on Blu-ray and DVD this week, and today we have an exclusive look at some of the great behind-the-scenes bonus content that will be available in the package. Watch the video below to find out how they were able to do that great Back to the Future III Christopher Lloyd cameo...
Everyone loves a good cameo, and Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West is packed with a number of them. Seemingly reprising his role from Ted as "Silent Guy," Ryan Reynolds’ quick appearance is a nice laugh, and it’s pretty great to see Jamie Foxx strap on spurs and a cowboy hat again to play Django once again. Easily the most talked about special appearance in the film, however, is the surprise reveal of Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown from the Back to the Future Trilogy, and thanks to the featurette clip above we now know how it all came to be.
As MacFarlane notes in the video, A Million Ways To Die In The West was originally intended to be made without the crutch of modern day pop culture references. But when they had the idea to include a shout out to Back To The Future, they simply couldn’t resist. The writer/director used his very own DeLorean for the cameo scene (it must be nice to have Family Guy money), and Christopher Lloyd apparently didn’t need any convincing to play most famous role once again.
Watching the Doc Brown cameo in the film, I still wonder if there is any possibility that A Million Ways To Die In The West actually fits into the continuity of the Back To The Future trilogy. There are certainly some long stretches of time in Back To The Future III where we aren’t 100% sure where Doc is or what he is up to, so is it possible that the scene where he meets Seth MacFarlane’s Alfred is within the timeline? Even if that idea doesn’t work, let’s not forget that Doc is a time traveler, meaning that this encounter could have happened really at any point in time. It’s true that none of this actually matters, especially given that we will never ever seen a full-on Back To The Future/A Million Ways To Die In The West crossover film, but this is what geeks spend their time thinking about, dammit!
A Million Ways To Die In The West, which stars Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Neil Patrick Harris, Sarah Silverman, and Liam Neeson, is now available to buy on Blu-ray and DVD. Head over to Page 2 to watch the red band trailer!
