Get Ready For Cowboys And Aliens
We’ve seen cowboy movies. We’ve seen alien invasion pictures. Now the two genres are getting mashed together as Dream Works and Universal joins together to produce an adaptation of the graphic novel Cowboys and Aliens.
Although the title speaks for itself, here’s the premise: It’s an old style shoot out between some cowboys and Apache Indians in 1800s Arizona. The fight is interrupted by a space ship which crashes nearby. The aliens aboard decide to take over the Old West and make slaves of everyone, but the cowboys and Indians have their own ideas, turning their shooters and arrows in defense.
The graphic novel was created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg last year and Rosenberg will act as a producer on the picture along with Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer and Ron Howard. With the comic creator and big names in entertainment like Grazer and Howard involved, I have high hopes for this.
What’s really going to be entertaining about this movie is all the people who get excited about it, yet were the same people who complained about the Ewok’s lower level of technology defeating the Empire in Return of the Jedi. Also, will they change the title? Cowboys and Aliens has a Snakes on a Plane level of simplicity to it – what you see is what you get. But we all know how that turned out for Snakes, don’t we?
