Ghost Rider Haunts Later
Just a quick note here on a tidbit I picked up from our friends over at The Movie Blog from an article they dug up at Variety. It looks like Nic Cage’s Ghost Rider movie is being delayed. When I say delayed, I don’t mean a month or two, we’re talking really delayed, delayed all the way back down the line to February 16, 2007.
Sony says they’re just trying to avoid traffic jams in the 06’ release schedule. That makes sense, release dates change for that reason all the time. Only, they usually just shift a week or two, or a couple of months at the most. Ghost Rider is being shoved off prime real estate, a release date in August, into an entirely different year in a much less desirable month. To me, this says that Sony doesn’t have confidence in the Ghost Rider as a Summer tentpole film. They’re dumping it in February, a less busy, less competitive movie month in the hopes that they’ll make some cash off it by wrote of there being nothing else of significance out there in theaters.
