Gillian Anderson has kind of let a lot of us forget about her since The X-Files ended, despite standout roles in movies like The Last King of Scotland and the Masterpiece Theater adaptation of Bleak House. But with the second X-Files movie coming out this summer, Anderson seems ready to get back into making movies in a major way, as both a producer and a star.

Variety reports that Anderson and her Fiddlehead Prods. have acquired the rights to the biography Gellhorn: A Twentieth-Century Life, about the famed female war correspondent Martha Gellhorn. Anderson will play Gellhorn, who covered the Spanish Civil War as well as Vietnam, and survived a marriage to the tempestuous author Ernest Hemingway to boot. The British playwright Sharman Macdonald will write the screenplay.

"Martha Gellhorn was one of the most respected journalists of this century, and I thought Caroline's biography effectively encompassed her rich and complex life," Anderson told Variety. And you don't have to be a Dana Scully fan to be excited that this talented actress is taking her career into her own hands and telling what seems to be a truly remarkable story. Regardless of how the X-Files movie does this summer, we'll be seeing plenty more of Anderson, and that's nothing but a good thing.
