Gina Gershon's Creepy Time
Not long ago having your own band was all the rage among Hollywood celebrities. Russell Crowe had 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, Keanu Reeves had Dogstar, even Kevin Bacon has a band. But now the latest craze seems to be writing your own children's book. Everyone from Madonna to Ahmet Zappa is doing it, and perhaps even worse, they're getting a lot of attention for it.
Hollywood is snatching up celebrity written childrens' books for movie adaptation almost faster than being written. Celebrity bands we all just ignored, but now these pampered authors are getting deals over real, less good looking (and yet probably more talented) writers.
The latest celeb wannabe to get mad writing props is frequently nude actress Gina Gershon. Variety says DreamWorks has picked up "Camp Creepy Time", a kids book written by Gershon and her brother Dan. Their intent is to turn the not yet published book into a family film, and they've hired Richard LaGravenese to adapt it.
Camp Creepy Time is about a young boy who discovers his summer camp is an alien smuggling operation. It's the Mos Eisely of America. Cam counselors start turning kids into monsters and shipping them off to exotic intergalactic zoos. Our boy hero has to stop them.
Meanwhile, somewhere out there, Bill Watterson is starving.
