Google Movie Magic
Is there anything that Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page can't do? In short, the answer is no. A big, yowling, resounding no.
According to Yahoo Movies, Brin and Page are taking their first trip into the movie business, by contributing financially to an independent film called Broken Arrows. No, it's not a sequel to that heinous Christian Slater/ John Travolta film. The film is written and directed by a buddy of theirs named Reid Gershbein, who works as a computer graphics designer at DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc.
Production costs came to just under 1 million bucks, and the Google gurus covered about half the dues. They are estimated at about $16 million each, so this is really just a pocket change investment for them. Still, it's great to see the big guys supporting their friends, not to mention the indie community.
Broken Arrows is about a man who loses his pregnant wife in a terrorist attack and then takes a job as a hit man. Gershbein will start screening the film at festivals next fall.
