Gravity Adventuring Onto Blu-ray And DVD In February
There are few movies released each year that incur the admiration of the critics and the box office crowd alike. This year, one of those darlings was Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, a cinematic film set in the vast and silence arena of space. The film recently earned a few Oscar nods, and also landed Cuaron the 2014 Golden Globe Award for Best Director. Soon, Gravity’s many fans will be able to bring the film home. On Friday, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment announced Gravity will hit Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on February 25.
I’m actually really impressed with the promotional shot the studio chose for the cover art, which should show anyone who hasn’t yet caught the film the visual perfection they have been missing. If you are one of those factions of people and you are interested in the film, the plot is pretty simple. George Clooney is a seasoned astronaut whose been in space plenty of times before. Sandra Bullock is a specialist hired to fix one of her designs. They're mid-mission when things become dire and they must work together to survive. It’s a pretty dramatic film, but Clooney adds a little humor to the situation, attempting a record for spacewalking. His character grounds the film and adds depth to a script that largely focuses on visuals and maintaining as much scientific integrity as possible.
Gravity might be headed on to Blu-ray and DVD, soon, but if you are still feeling like getting the full theatrical experience (or reprising it), you aren’t out of luck. Gravity has already returned to some 2D theaters. Additionally, the film is expected to head back into IMAX theaters beginning on January 31. So, if you don’t want to wait for the Digital or Blu-ray release to catch the Oscar nominee, there are additional options.
Even if you catch the film during its return to theaters, there are other reasons to purchase the flick. Most notably, a slew of extras will accompany the set, and one of those extras will be a short film "Aningaaq" that was shot by Jonas Cuaron. There are other extras with the set, which you can check out below, or head over to Amazon to pre-order.
