Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 Storyboard Reveals A Hint About Star-Lord's Dad
We’re well over a year from the movie’s release—it’s still filming now—but that’s not going to stop us from getting excited about every last piece of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. As he has done countless times over the course of development and production of this movie and the 2014 original, director James Gunn took to social media to share a tease with fans. His latest is an image of a storyboard that appears to offer some hint about Star-Lord’s father, we’re just not exactly sure what the hint actually is. Check it out for yourself below.
James Gunn shared this storyboard of a recent shot from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 with fans via his Facebook page, and even he doesn’t think we’ll be able to figure out exactly what it depicts. And he’s right, there’s not much to go on, and I really have very little clue what they just filmed.
One guess going around our "office" is that this is that this could show Adam Warlock’s cocoon—even the guesser admits he doesn’t think that’s really what we’re looking at here. Still, it’s better than anything I can come up with—my best guess it’s a canoe with a tree going out of it and the mismatched crew of anti-heroes will be doing some camping in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Like I said, I’ve got nothing.
We don’t know a ton about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at this point, except it will reportedly involve Star-Lord finding out the identity of his father. In the comics, this is J’son of Spartax, leader of the Spartoi Empire. This would account for the fact that we learn at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy that Star-Lord’s father is some kind of very old, very powerful being. That said, James Gunn already revealed that Peter Quill’s father in the movie will not be the same as in the comics. Back to square one.
Though we don’t know the identity of Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, we’re curious to see if it turns out to be either Kurt Russell or Sylvester Stallone. Both of those actors are attached to the film, and they’re both old enough where they could believably play the parent of someone the age of Chris Pratt, who plays Star-Lord. That, of course, is pure speculation, but how cool would it be if Kurt Russell plays Peter Quill’s dad?
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 brings back the core group—Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper), and the eight-foot-tall talking alien tree, Groot (Vin Diesel)—for more adventures in deep space on May 5, 2017.
