Gus Van Sant's The Promised Land Adds Titus Welliver
Gus Van Sant has already managed to find an all-star cast for his upcoming film, The Promised Land. Both Matt Damon and John Krasinski are set to star in the film, but the supporting cast is made up of brilliant names like Frances McDormand, Rosemarie DeWitt and Hal Holbrook. Today it has added one more.
Variety is reporting that Titus Welliver has signed on for a part in The Promised Land. As recently revealed, the plot has to do with the controversial practice of hydraulic fracturing, which involves pumping a mixture of sand, water and chemicals into bedrock in order to release natural gas. Krasinski and Damon are set to play rival executives who fight over the right to a small rural town. The first draft of the script was written by Dave Eggers and Krasinski did a rewrite. Welliver will play a man who lives in the town, but is actually open to the idea of having the gas companies invade. He will also serve as a potential love interest to McDormand's character, who is Damon's sales partner.
Feature wise, Welliver was most recently seen in the thriller Man on a Ledge and has a number of upcoming projects, including the Powers television series (based on the graphic novel by Brian Michael Bendis) and Ben Affleck's Argo, which is set to be released this fall. He is currently in production on Midnight Sun, a television project directed by Brad Anderson and co-starring Julia Stiles, Emma Bell and Michael Raymond-James.
