Henry Cavill Opens Up About His First Time Wearing Superman's Suit
There has been so much Superman chatter on the Internet over the last day or two that one might think Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel was opening this summer instead of Summer 2013. Hot on the heels of the controversial announcement that Laurence Fishburne would play Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White, we have brand new Superman Henry Cavill opening up about his official diet, his training regime, and how it feels to wear the traditional red-and-blue super duds.
"It’s extremely cool. There’s no other feeling like it," Cavill tells Total Film. "They just put it on, I turned around and look in the mirror and you can’t really play it cool – you sort of guffaw and laugh. I thought "OK, holy hell, this is real, it’s not a joke anymore. This is it. … You’re doing it, you’re right in the middle of it.'"
I get the impression newly-minted Spider-Man Andrew Garfield had a similar reaction when he first donned his costume, and some of that enthusiasm spilled over into his charming Comic-Con speech last month.
Cavill didn’t reveal any plot points aside from giving the company line about being true to the character, yadda yadda yadda. He did reveal that he’s working out more than two hours a day and devouring 5,000 calories a day to bulk up for his Superman role. And Cavill mentioned that the increased physique could help him if he ditched this iconic American role for an equally important British hero. When asked by Total Film if he’d ever like to play James Bond if and when Daniel Craig leaves the franchise, Cavill didn’t mask his enthusiasm and started he’d "leap at the opportunity to do it." First things first, sir. Focus on Superman for Snyder’s Man of Steel, which won’t open in theaters until June 14, 2013.
