Hero Blend #42: How Suicide Squad Can Expand The DC Cinematic Universe

Though Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has quite the packed cast – featuring the likes of Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jeremy Irons, and more – it’s David Ayer’s Suicide Squad that could wind up challenging it as the most star-studded superhero movie of 2016. Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Jai Courtney have all been rumored for various roles in the movie (with Jesse Eisenberg reportedly in talks to reprise his Lex Luthor performance), and we’re crossing our fingers that they all wind up signing deals. As exciting as that is, however, it’s the roles that they could be playing and how they will affect the larger DC Cinematic Universe that really gets us interested.

The best place to start is with the biggest news of all, as Jared Leto is being rumored for the role of The Joker - which would make him the first actor to take on the part in a live-action feature since Heath Ledger’s Oscar-worthy performance in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. The rest of the potential cast is fascinating as well, as Margot Robbie is said to be in talks to play Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney is lined up to play Deadshot, Will Smith is rumored for Captain Boomerang and Tom Hardy might be Rick Flag. They’re all interesting choices that all mean very different things, and it spurred a great conversation for this week’s Hero Blend.

Joining me for episode #42 is is my good friend Silas Lesnick from ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype/Most Craved, and we come up with some very interesting theories about what direction Suicide Squad is heading in. Check it out!
