Hero Blend #89: Captain America Civil War Reviewed (Spoiler Free Edition!)
Marvel Studios is now entering the third Phase of its increasingly popular cinematic universe, and in the eight years since it began the films have been getting more and more mature, complex and interesting. Phase One was all about origins – introducing mass audiences to characters beloved for decades and done right simply by being entirely authentic. Phase Two was all about experimentation – dabbling in a wide variety of different genres to demonstrate impressive narrative flexibility. Obviously it will be a while before we will be able to define Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if Captain America: Civil War is any indication, we should brace ourselves for some jaw-dropping adventures in the years to come.
Though the movie is still a few weeks away from release, the review embargo has broken, and I can confirm that the incredibly positive hype is very real. Functioning as both a sequel to Captain America: The Winter Solider and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, the movie is arguably the most universe-immersive title that Marvel has released, and manages to be simultaneously serious, emotional, thrilling and entertaining. Naturally, I was excited to make Captain America: Civil War the central subject of our latest episode of Hero Blend.
Joining me for Hero Blend’s spoiler-free review of Captain America: Civil War is my good friend Silas Lesnick from ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype/Most Craved, who has some insightful things to say about the latest Marvel Studios film. Enjoy the show!
