Last year Labor Day was a huge boost for the box office. Thanks to the shameless remake of Halloween it was the first time that the top ten movies of the four day weekend yielded more than $100 million. This year some of the movies opening for Labor Day are no less shameless but are enjoying much less attention and ticket sales (and thank goodness for that...I've been getting tired of movies like Disaster Movie making gobs of cash). In fact, this holiday weekend has seen seen the lowest totals since 2004's dismal turn out.
Tropic Thunder was lucky enough to float on top of everything else for one last weekend making it three weekends at the top. Despite that it's still struggling to hit the break even mark for its budget. Meanwhile other newcomers this weekend gave very little competition, living up to their miserable reviews by making minimal cash.
