It pains me to say this, but apparently Tim Hill, the director of Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, Alvin and the Chipmunks and Hop, is apparently is high demand. Just yesterday it was reported that the filmmaker has been hired by Dimension Films to helm a remake of Short Circuit and now he's landed yet another gig.
THR has it that Hill has been selected and is currently in negotiations to helm Walter the Farting Dog for Paramount Pictures. The Farrelly brothers, who were attached to direct while the project was still over at Fox, will now serve as producers along with Mary Parent, the former worldwide motion picture group chairman at MGM. Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow, who wrote the Garfield sequel that Hill also directed, wrote the script based on the books by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, and Audrey Colman. The series follows a family who own "an exceedingly flatulent dog." The four Jonas brothers were previously attached to the project, but that is no longer the case.
I could be upset that a man who has made a living pandering to children keeps getting work, but in this case I really don't think it's worth the energy necessary to declare, "I object!" This is a movie called Walter The Farting Dog based a series of ridiculous children's books. The movie will likely be another live-action/CGI animation hybrid and all of the humor will derive from either people falling down and hurting themselves or a dog releasing methane gas clouds from its rectum. The kids will giggle, the parents will wish they were dead, and the film will make over $100 million at the domestic box office. At this stage, what's the point in protesting?
