The Host Gets A New Trailer, Watch Stephenie Meyer And Cast's Google Hangout

The Host writer Stephenie Meyer and the feature adaptation's stars, Saoirse Ronan, Jake Abel and Max Irons greeted fans via Google Hangout today to introduce the new trailer for the film and talk about the alien invasion story. The trailer is now available and features more of the sci-fi action and romance in store when the film arrives in theaters next month.

Directed by Andrew Niccol, The Host stars Saoirse Ronan as Melanie, a young woman who was part of what's left of the human resistance against aliens called "Souls," who have taken over most of the human population. As you'll see in the trailer below, Melanie is captured and the Souls want to use her to find other members of the resistance. She's inhabited by a Soul named Wanderer, but Melanie refuses to leave her mind, giving Ronan two characters to play in this story.

The trailer shows us Wanderer before she's "installed" into Melanie, and then we get to see Melanie waking up as Wanderer and her eyes beginning to glow.

The above trailer debuted during the Google Hangout today, after which Meyer, Ronan, Jake Abel and Max Irons answered fan questions. Ronan actually showed up via Skype, from England partway through the trailer. Not realizing it was playing, she apologized for her lateness. It was an amusing interruption and one of many adorable moments provided by Ronan, who's particularly charming.

Speaking of Ronan, Abel, Irons and Meyer all had good things to say about the film's lead actor. Max Irons, who plays Melanie's boyfriend Jared in the story, described Ronan as "hypnotic." He mentioned Melanie and Wanderer's arrival at the caves as the scene he thought was the most emotional. For Abel, who plays Wanderer's love interest Ian, it was the "You're not leaving me" scene, which he notes fans of the book will probably recognize.

Another interesting tidbit that was shared during the chat came from Ronan, who spoke of a montage day, that apparently involves swing dancing in the rain, and also kissing in the rain.

You can watch the full web chat below:

I wonder what "Question 5" was. The video began with Meyer urging Abel not to answer it.

The Host arrives in theaters March 29. More information, photos and videos can be found in our Blend Film Database.
