The Host Set Video Shows Caves, Stunts And The Filming Of A Dramatic Scene

Those who are greatly anticipating the film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's The Host have only to wait until March of next year to see how the story will look on the big screen. In the meantime, some behind the scenes footage of the film has made its way online, giving us a look at the set for the film and some of the stunts performed.

(Vague story spoilers ahead!)

Based on a novel by Twilight's Stephenie Meyer, The Host takes place on earth after aliens have invaded the planet and taken over the bodies of most of its inhabitants. In the film, Saoirse Ronan plays Melanie Stryder, a human whose body and mind is inhabited by an alien called Wanderer, who wants to use Melanie as a way to find other uninhabited humans. Ronan is featured in MTV's video below, as well as Max Irons, who plays Melanie's boyfriend Jared.

Ronan comments on the stunts for the film, which we're given a glimpse of in the above video as she jumps from a balcony while strapped to a harness.

"It actually is very physical. I didn't expect it to be so physical. I've been on a harness quite a bit. I've done stunts - I've jumped off a balcony. I was thirty feet in the air, so that was pretty cool."

We also got a look at what appeared to be Melanie/Wanderer on the run from the Seeker (Diane Kruger), and a scene featuring Irons' Jared as he talks to "Wanda" about wanting to kiss Melanie. It's understandable that Jared might have confused feelings toward the alien who's now wearing his girlfriend's body.

Since a lot of the footage shown moves by fast, we grabbed some screenshots to save you the effort of frequent pausing.

The Host arrives in theaters March 29, 2013. More information and photos can be found in our Blend Film Database.

Kelly put her life-long love of movies, TV and books to greater use when she joined CinemaBlend as a freelance TV news writer in 2006, and went on to serve as the site’s TV Editor before joining the staff full-time in 2011 and moving over to other roles at the site. At present, she’s an Assistant Managing Editor who spends much of her time brainstorming and editing features, analyzing site data, working with writers and editors on content planning and the workflow, and (of course) continuing to obsess over the best movies and TV shows (those that already exist, and the many on the way). She graduated from SUNY Cortland with BA in Communication Studies and a minor in Cinema Studies.
