How Deadpool's Sidekick Fits Into The Movie
In Deadpool, Wade Wilson is going to make a lot of enemies with his shenanigans, but he won’t be without allies. Or at least people who will put up with him without beating him senseless…much. One of those characters is the Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and although we didn’t see much of her in the first trailer, she’s going to play a key role in the story through her humorous interactions with the eponymous merc.
Although Negasonic Teenage Warhead starts out as Colossus’ partner in Deadpool, actress Brianna Hildebrand told Screen Rant that her character develops a sibling-like relationship with the Merc with a Mouth as the story progresses. She said:
Simply going off the previously released set photos of Deadpool and Negasonic Teenage Warhead together, it’s not surprising that their relationship is like that of a brother annoying his sister, or vice-versa. There’s the chimichanga-loving, fourth-wall breaking smart-ass with a penchant for causing chaos, and they’ve paired him with the goth teenager who doesn’t like putting up with nonsense. The comedy writes itself.
Like Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead studies at Professor Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, so she’ll be one of the ways the main X-Men universe ties into what’s happening in Deadpool’s life. In addition to being able to see into the future like her comic book counterpart, Hildebrand mentioned that this version of the character is able to run at things and explode, hence making the "warhead" part of her name literal. Other than that, we don’t know what’s in store for Negasonic Teenage Warhead, but considering that she has never been a major character in the comics, this story will be her best chance to shine in front of comic book fans and regular moviegoers.
Deadpool will follow special forces operative Wade Wilson as he joins the Weapon X program for experimentation in an effort to cure his cancer. In Ajax and Angel Dust’s cruel hands, Wade gains incredible healing powers, but is also horribly disfigured. With his sanity bent and a newfound dark sense of humor in play, he’ll don the famous red and black suit and seek revenge against the "man who nearly destroyed his life." Along the way he’ll run into Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus, but we’ll have to wait and see how much they’ll actually assist him. Actually, the better question is whether he ends up mucking up whatever mission they’re on.
Deadpool arrives in theaters on February 12, 2016.
