High School Musical has it all wrong. Here’s the way this is supposed to work: You make a movie. Then interest in your property dies down, and you make a direct to DVD movie. Then years later there’s a resurgence of interest in your franchise and you get some sort of TV movie. HSM is doing everything in reverse. They did television, DVD, and now the High School Musical phenomenon is getting a movie. It’s gone all topsy turvey.
We’ve known that High School Musical 3 would be a movie for awhile now, but the big news tonight is that they’re starting to lock up the movie’s primary cast. US Magazine says that HSM stars Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens are set to reprise their roles, and they’re getting a substantial increase in pay to do it. It’s likely well deserved. I don’t imagine making a movie for the Disney Channel is exactly like getting instant access to a money tree.
If you’re under 20 you probably only know Hudgens’ name from the tabloids, where her name got dragged through the mud after the shocking revelation that sometimes she’s naked at home in her bedroom. Usually while showering or changing clothes. What a whore. But Disney is willing to give this whore another shot, and though there were rumors that she’d be replaced in the HSM big screen adventure it looks like the mouse has decided to forgive and forget. Hudgens and her friend Ashley are supposed to sign their contracts later this week, so we’ll find out for certain whether Mickey’s merciful or not then.
