The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Tops Fandango List Of Anticipated 2014 Movies
To the surprise of pretty much no one, the next chapter of the massively successful The Hunger Games series tops a list of most-anticipated movies of 2014.
Fandango conducted the poll, revealing that its users placed Mockingjay – Part 1 atop their collective list of movies they can’t wait to see this year. In addition, Hunger Games co-star Jennifer Lawrence and Gangster Squad hunk Ryan Gosling were selected as the top fan picks for the Sexiest Men and Women appearing in 2014 movies. Last year’s top pick in the same Fandango poll was The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. That sequel went on to become Fandango’s best-selling movie of all time.
Dave Karger, Chief Correspondent for Fandango, summarized:
The good folks at Marvel might argue about Mockingjay being the box-office powerhouse to beat, as they proved with Iron Man 3 that their superhero epics are tops on a financial scale. This year, Marvel has both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy on its slate, and both could give Katniss a run for her money.
There’s always the off chance that a non-franchise movie will climb to the top of the box-office ranks, as when Avatar claimed the crown in 2009. But for the most part, sequels have earned the most cash in decades past, with only non-franchise players like Saving Private Ryan (1998), Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) and Independence Day (1996) breaking that trend in recent memory.
Here are the rest of Fandango’s results. We’ll actually have a major breakdown of the biggest movies of 2014 on the site on Thursday, so book mark us and check back often.
