I’ll be honest, when I heard Cate Blanchett was going to be in Indiana Jones 4, I instantly assumed that she’d be playing his new nookie girl. Yeah it’s Blanchett and she should be better than a throwaway female character whose primary place in the film is to scream when she encounters spiders, but traditionally that’s all female roles in the Indy movies have been good for. The confusing thing about this is that from the beginning, we’ve all heard that previous Indy girlfriend Karen Allen would be back as Marion Ravenwood. The pieces just never quite fit, until now.

The good folks over at IESB are reporting that Blanchett will not be Indy’s new girlfriend. Instead, she’ll be the film’s bad guy. They say she’ll be in cahoots with a bunch of Russian badniks who Dr. Jones ends up fighting. It’s just a shame he’s not fighting Nazis in this one. Cate makes a great Nazi.
