Jackie Chan Vs. Jet Li Confirmed
Jackie Chan and Jet Li love to talk about quitting action movies, but it never seems to happen. Now they're going to be too old for this shit together.
Variety says the long rumored Jackie Chan/Jet Li team-up movie is finally happening. After a lot of talk, Relativity Media has paid out $70 million to get it made, officially hired Robert Minkoff to direct, and Yuen Woo-Ping to create the action-stunts.
That's the good news. The bad news is that it won't be the hardcore, martial arts extravaganza fans of Chan and Li have been dreaming of. Instead, it's going to be a family film. Robert Minkoff is the director of movies like Stuart Little and The Haunted Mansion. He'll bring his family friendly skills to bear on Li and Chan.
There's no title for it yet, but they have a script by John Fusco. It's about "the legend of the monkey king and his quest to achieve immortality". Jet plays two roles in the movie: The monkey king and a silent monk. Jackie will be another monk named T'sa-Ho. Whether that makes them enemies in the film or friends is anyone's guess, though it'd be an incredible disappointment to get Chan and Li in the same movie without having them fight. You've got to assume that whatever the film's weird premise they'll throw a few punches each other's way at some point, even if they're watered down PG punches.
