Jackson Rests His Bones At DreamWorks

Peter Jackson has found a resting place for his next movie, Lovely Bones. After a brief bidding war between those Hollywood studios which are not named New Line Cinema, the film has gone to DreamWorks.

Lovely Bones is a supernatural drama based on a book by Alice Sebold. In it a 14-year-old girl is raped and killed. Her spirit is unhappy with this, and hangs around to keep watch over her family and her killer. Sounds a little like Peter Jackson’s Pan’s Labyrinth to me, and why not. Before he was lord of the hobbits he had a thing for horror, and was birthed from the same genre that brought forth Guillermo Del Toro.

Jackson has been touting this as the “small” movie he’s doing to take a break from all the big-budget filmmaking on Lord of the Rings and King Kong. Apparently PJ’s idea of small is much different than ours, because Variety says his team shopped it to the Hollywood majors with a projected budget of $80 million dollars. Sounds like someone has fallen in love with Craft Services. Don’t worry DreamWorks, he’s good for it.

The movie brings the old LOTR team back together. A post-success skinnier, sexier Peter Jackson is directing and he wrote the script with his long time partners Philipa Boyens and Fran Walsh.
