I know, I know. You’ve never heard of the comic book Tintin and you don’t understand why a movie is being made based on it. Even more, you don’t understand why major names like Peter Jackson and Steven Spielberg have gotten involved. All that I can say is, comic books exist beyond the boundaries of the United States, and Tintin is huge, just not in our country.

Now for someone you have heard of : Thomas Sangster. The young actor appeared in Love Actually as the smitten little kid who learned to play the drums to impress a girl. He’s also been in Nanny McPhee, The Last Legion, and even a few episodes of Doctor Who. Coming Soon reports that Sangster has been cast as the title character in the upcoming Tintin movies. In fact, apparently the seventeen-year-old actor has already been to L.A. to work with Jackson and Spielberg.

Even though the first of three planned movies will begin filming in the fall (and by filming we mean motion capture), only Tintin and sidekick Captain Haddock have been cast, with Peter Jackson staple Andy Serkis playing Haddock. Spielberg will direct the first film with Jackson directing the second one. I’m guessing they’ll end up arm wrestling the third one, or completely blowing people’s minds by bringing in someone like James Cameron.

So we have our Tintin. Go ahead and bitch below about how you don’t know the character so you have no idea whether Sangster is right for the part. Just be sure to expand your horizons and actually check out the movie when it is released.
