James Badge Dale Is Not Iron Patriot In Iron Man 3
In the world of movies, seeing isn't always believing. If you watch a character learn how to fly on screen, that doesn't mean that the director actually taught an actor how to fly. If a character can use their mind to deflect bullets, that doesn't mean you should go out with a couple of friends and a handgun to try it yourself. And just because you see a picture of a white guy wearing a patriotic suit of armor doesn't mean that it's not actually a substitute for a black guy in a suit of armor we've already seen.
Where am I going with this, you ask? Well, it turns out that Latino-Review has uncovered some inside information about a couple of set photos from Iron Man 3 that came out last week. The images showed what appeared to be a red, white, and blue version of Iron Man's armor known in the comics as Iron Patriot. What's more, captions that came along with the images said that the actor James Badge Dale, who is playing the character Eric Savin in the movie, wearing the armor.
Well, it turns out that information isn't wholly correct. According to the site, the white guy wearing the armor is not James Badge Dale, but rather a stunt double for Don Cheadle (apparently all white people look the same). This would also explain why the armor that the actor is wearing looks familiar, as it's basically the War Machine getup with a new paint job (the gattling gun on the left shoulder is a dead giveaway). Because of this, Latino-Review is backing away from the Iron Patriot title, as the armor technically already has another name.
Iron Man 3,directed by Shane Black, stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau and James Badge Dale. The sequel will arrive in theaters on May 3, 2013 and you can read more about it in our Blend Film Database.
