James Gunn Has Seen Civil War, Here's What He Thought
While most of us have to wait until early summer to see the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, apparently when you’re a big part of helping to make part of the MCU, you get to ignore little things like release schedules. The director of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise has already seen Captain America: Civil War and he has nothing but great things to say about it.
James Gunn was doing a little fan Q&A on his Facebook page when somebody asked him what he thought of the upcoming Doctor Strange movie. Since that movie is early in filming, all he could really say was that he liked the script for it. However, he then went on to say that what he really liked was the latest effort from the Russo Brothers.
"One of the best Marvel movies ever" is high praise. Considering that the Russo’s last Marvel effort, Captain America: The Winter Soldier as well as Gunn’s own Guardians of the Galaxy were the top two movies on our ranking of the MCU films, putting Civil War at that same level is a pretty big deal. While Gunn is certainly part of the fold we tend to believe his view. He brought the movie up of his own free will, he wasn’t actually asked a question about it so if he didn’t have anything nice to say he could have simply chosen to remain silent.
Overall the quality level of the MCU has been really stunning considering how long it’s been going. For the most part, the expectation of any Marvel movie is that it’s going to be pretty good. Even the slight missteps like Iron Man 2 are really only looked at poorly because they’re in such strong company. Every indication has been that Civil War was going to be a strong film. Now it looks like we may be in for a case of the Russo’s topping their own best work. Check out James Gunn’s full comments below. His comments about Civil War are near the end.
Do you think Captain America: Civil War looks like one of the best Marvel movies yet? How do you think James Gunn can top it with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2?
