Jared Hess Has A Concord
Jared Hess is breaking up the band. He’s hired one half of the super-group Flight of the Concords to star in his new movie Gentlemen Broncos.
HR says movie is about a high school kid who goes to writing camp and has his story shredded by a famous fantasy novelist. Jemaine Clement, the aforementioned half a Concord, will play the fantasy novelist. Michael Angaro will star as the outcast high school kid and Sam Rockwell has been hired to play one of the characters in the kid’s story. Apparently we’ll see different versions of the book realized on screen. And after the movie’s over, you’ll probably be able to buy a wide assortment of mildly ironic t-shirts with the vague outline of Jermaine Clement’s face on them.
Gentlemen Broncos sounds interesting and Clement should mesh well with Jared Hess’s signature style since it’s not that far from the stuff he’s already done as part of the Concords and earlier last year in the underrated indie flick Eagle vs. Shark. But then you might not want to listen to me when it comes to Hess. I hated his first mainstream movie and loved his second. For those of you who haven’t been keeping track, that means I think Napoleon Dynamite is overhyped tripe and Nacho Libre is pretty funny stuff. Basically, take what everyone else thinks about his work, flip it on its head, and you’ll have a guy named Josh.
