Jarhead for Jamie
Thought I’d take a break from reporting on by now boorish and tired Jedi and men in tights rumors to talk about something more down to earth. The movie is Jarhead and no, it isn’t the story of Jar Jar’s even less intelligent brother.
It’s the next project for Jake Gyllenhaal, who since he’s working for Sam Mendes may finally be doing something worthy of the considerable talents he displayed in Donnie Darko. Based on the Persian Gulf Memoirs of Anthony Swofford, Jarhead is part of that new trend of timely and topical filmmaking, since it contains vivid descriptions of the first Iraq Attack… which in a better world would be the name of a really cool video game, not a description of two failed all out assaults on a pile of sand.
Joining Gyllenhaal on the Mendes directed film is hot property Jamie Foxx (Did you see those nude pictures? No? Neither did I.) and Lucas Black who is unfortunately no relation to the very funny spastic comedian Lewis Black.
Jarhead should start shooting in December. Look for it in theaters on September 30, 2005.
