Jesus Ads In UK Movies
I saw this story over with our friends at M&C, and noticed it mostly because I’m surprised it’s actually news.
Apparently this is a big shocker in Great Britain, but the headline is that British moviegoers will soon be seeing advertisements for Christianity in with their Volvo commercials before movies.
Since I live in the American Bible Belt, this is nothing new to me. I can’t remember the last time I went into a theater and didn’t see some creepy, bug-eyed preacher staring down at me from the screen, usually standing next to his heavily hair-sprayed wife, imploring me to get religion. Specifically his religion and oh yeah bring a donation.
This is believed to be Britain’s first advertisement for religion, so I guess they’re a bit behind the Jesus-sellout-curve. It’s amazing they’ve dodge it this long. Next for the Queen’s subjects: further spiritual commercialization with the introduction of “Jesus Saves” t-shirts and metal Jesus-fish for the backs of God-fearing cars.
