News continues to leak out of The Mummy 3 production, or I guess I should say pre-production. Last we heard the script was being sent back for rewrites and none of the principles were actually locked up to be in it even though it’s slated for 2008. So we’re not sure if Brendan Fraser will show up, but according to a story which HorrorMovies.ca claims to have picked up from Mania.com Jet Li will be there in front of the camera.
They claim Jet Li is The Mummy 3’s villain. However they also seem to indicate that Universal wants Stephen Sommers to direct Mummy 3, even though last week Universal told us over the phone that they’re completely in love with Rob Cohen, they guy they’ve already hired to direct The Mummy 3.
What I’m getting at here is that as rumors go, this one is pretty shaky. In fact, I can’t even find the story HorrorMovies is referencing on Mania.com. I’m not saying it doesn’t exist, I’m just saying I can’t find it anywhere and if it’s a legitimate scoop you’d think they’d want to display it somewhere that people can read it. Plus, there’s the fact that I’ve never even heard of either website and it’s likely that neither have you. So who knows if there’s anything to this.
That said, I like the idea. Jet Li was a great villain in Lethal Weapon, why not The Mummy 3? As long as they don’t turn him into a CGI scorpion that is.
