We've always thought of John Cusack as a funny guy, but not like, laugh-out-loud funny. Not Knocked Up funny, or Harold & Kumar funny. But now he's teaming up with actors from both of those movies in the goofy-sounding Hot Tub Time Machine, joining Craig Robinson and Rob Corddry as three guys transported--through a hot tub, of course-- back to 1987.
Variety also notes that Sex Drive star Clark Duke is negotiating to star, presumably as one of the 1987 pals? The Sex Drive connection reinforces just how strange it is for Cusack to join a project like this. Are times really so hard for Llloyd Dobler that he's taking straight paycheck jobs? Or will this movie turn out to be a secret allegory about the Iraq War? Either way, casting Cusack adds a level of intrigue-- which I guess was the whole point. Well played.
