There are times when people clearly take advantage of the death of a celebrity (the dude selling MJ shirts on the corner of my block), and there are times when coincidences just happen. It was a coincidence that when 2Pac died, he had just finished an album where he made plenty of references to getting killed. It was a coincidence that Heath Ledger died just prior to the release of his biggest role ever.

And it’s a coincidence that director Matt Austin-Sadowski of Toronto happened to finish his documentary about John Hughes just prior to the influential director’s death. Coincidence or not, that death has brought mass attention to Don’t You Forget About Me, and according to Variety, the film has picked up a distribution deal with Alliance Films.

A low budget documentary, Don’t You Forget About Me takes a more personal approach to the life of John Hughes. Rather than make a simple life story doc, the director decided to go on a search to find John Hughes, who’s known for being quite reclusive. The film documents this journey.
