Oscar winner John Williams brings out the best in Steven Spielberg, and vice versa. The duo have collaborated on countless classic film scores, and their next will be Lincoln, the historical biopic of our nation’s 16th president that casts Daniel Day-Lewis as the revered leader. What details can we glean from the scores’ track listing? More than you might have guessed.
The song titles have been posted over on The Film Stage, and they hint at some of the scenes we’re destined to see in Spielberg’s effort. Not that the historical events in Lincoln’s past can be considered “spoilers” (in the traditional sense), but when you see song titles like “Appomattox, April 9, 1865,” you know that Spielberg and Day-Lewis will tackle the battle at the famed court house that signified the last fight waged by Confederate States General Robert E. Lee before he surrendered to L. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. And the title “The Peterson House and Finale” bring a chill if you know that’s where Lincoln was brought to die following his fatal gunshot wound in Ford’s Theater on April 15, 1865.
