Johnny Quest Explores Movies
The rather lame 60s animated TV series “Johnny Quest” is headed for theaters. Variety reports that Warner Brothers is to blame.
I realize the cartoon has some sort of bizarre cult following, but frankly I’ve never understood it. It’s just not that cool and it’s vaguely racist. I mean, Johnny’s family keeps Arab slaves. That’s just not cool. The show is about a family of scientists: a boy named Johnny, his scientist father, his bulldog, a government agent, and his adopted brother/butler/racist stereotype Hadji. They travel around the world investigating science and getting into adventures.
It’s being made by the guys behind the upcoming video game to movie adaptation Hitman, which itself doesn’t exactly look very good. They plan to turn this into a family-friend adventure franchise. To me that says Quest fans should fear it turning into some sort of weird knockoff of Spy Kids. Please do not let Robert Rodriguez direct.
