Jones's Third Chapter

2004 has been the year for long delayed sequels. For some reason, movies that really either shouldn't have had a sequel, or have passed a sensible amount of time for a follow up have had sequels come out this year. First it was The Whole Ten Yards, a sequel to the 2000 Whole Nine Yards and coming up later this year is Meet the Fockers, whose first film also came out in 2000, as well as Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. The first Bridget Jones film came out in 2001, so its sequel is a little closer to the original film, and it was actually popular enough to warrant a sequel... apparently. I didn't actually see it, so I can't tell you much about it or its sequel. Luckily we have other people out there to help fill us in on movie franchises we don't know.

The new issue of People Magazine states that while Working Title Pictures wants to move forward with a third Bridget Jones flick, franchise star Renee Zellweger isn't as interested in reprising the role. This probably isn't the worst career move, not wanting to sign up for another sequel before the first one arrives in theaters, but when have studios had that much sense?

As usual, when studios decide to move forward with something, it starts moving foward. Desperate to keep another three years from passing between the second and third chapters of Bridget Jones's Diary, the studio is talking about replacing Zellweger with actual British actress Kate Winslet.
