Josh Flitter Is Ace Ventura's Son
Josh Flitter: what the hell are you doing man? I know you’re just a kid, but you’re about to crash and burn your movie career so fast your name might as well be Corey.
For those unfamiliar with Josh Flitter, he appeared this summer in Nancy Drew and, more recently (and sadly) as the Choir Boy in License to Wed. Basically he followed Robin Williams around for 90% of the movie with no real purpose to the character even being there. He may have only been following the director’s instructions, but at some point even a ten year old (Josh is 13) should have said, “enough is enough.”
I had a little bit of hope for the young actor when it was announced that he was doing vocal work for the upcoming Horton Hears A Who, but now Variety has announced what should be the last nail in the coffin of Flitter’s career: he’s playing Ace Ventura’s son in Ace Ventura 3.
The not-delayed-enough third chapter in the Ace Ventura franchise actually won’t have anything to do with Jim Carrey. Instead the movie will focus on his offspring, played by Flitter. The youth will follow in Ace Sr.’s footsteps by opening a pet detective agency for his 7th grade class. After his mother is arrested for the disappearance of a baby panda, young Ace (I’m assuming that’s his name or there’s no reason to keep the title of the movie Ace Ventura) finds himself on the case.
Really, there’s a reason why Jim Carrey isn’t doing another Ace Ventura picture, and it’s not just because his career has gotten more serious. He’s certainly shown that he’s still willing to be weird and silly. He’s not doing another one because there’s no reason for another one, and the two-movie franchise should have ended with one movie.
Ace Ventura 3 is scheduled to begin filming in mid-September with a “who knows when” release (which probably will be direct to DVD if there is a God), giving young Flitter two months to decide whether he wants to actually be an actor or if he’s ready to crash in Dustin Diamond’s pad, because that’s where his current line of movies is leading him, and it isn’t pretty.
