Justice League's Villain Probably Won't Be Who We Thought
Justice League is inching closer and closer to becoming a reality, and every day closer is a day for news to surprise us, the movie-going public. Seeing as there's three years or so until the film's projected release date of Summer 2017, there's obviously a lot of details left to be discovered, and it looks like someone might have found some of those details already. However, if this scoop turns out to be legitimate, then the original assumption that Darkseid would be the big bad for the DC Cinematic Continuum's version of The Avengers has changed, and Brainiac is the new menace for the Justice League to tangle with.
Umberto "El Mayimbe" Gonzalez of Latino Review took to the podcast Meet The Movie Press today to announce two big DC Comics movie scoops. One of those scoops was about how, instead of Darkseid taking on the role of Justice League's central protagonist, it would the other, equally familiar Superman villain. After about a half hour of chit chat and CIA metaphors, Gonzalez dropped the news in the statement below.
Brainiac, the supercomputer that, depending on what version you subscribe to, ensured the destruction of Krypton; is going to be the main focus for the Justice League's first case as a team. So just how does the massive mind of malice migrate to our planet? Gonzalez had an answer for that too, as he said that:
As for Darkseid, the original villain that was supposedly going to be the villain for Justice League at some point (which was also a Latino Review scoop,) Gonzalez simply said that,"They're pushing him towards later." The assumption of the room was that Darkseid and Thanos are too similar to be on the market at the same time, so one has to move and Darkseid is the one. So while Darkseid won't be creating mayhem in the DC Continuum just yet, he sounds like he's part of the plans for the future.
Of course, if Brainiac actually is in play for Justice League, then perhaps those rumors that Benedict Cumberbatch has a role in Justice League and/or Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice are truer than we originally thought. While that possibility sinks so deep into typecasting that it that it's racing the Titanic to the bottom, it has to be said that Benedict Cumberbatch would make a superb Brainiac on the big screen. We'll see what happens in the days to come, but our money is on this information staying under wraps until next year's San Diego Comic Con, at the earliest.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice kicks off the whole DC shooting match on March 25th, 2016.
