Kat Dennings Interrupts Natalie Portman On A Date In New Thor: The Dark World Clip
In recent weeks we've watched a dark deal being made, warriors fighting on a battlefield, an ancient evil awakening, and a scientist slapping a god, but today the stream of clips from Alan Taylor's Thor: The Dark World has delivered something very different. While you won't find any superhero action in the clip above, which comes to us via Buzz Sugar, what you will find is a funny little clip featuring Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings and a surprise appearance from Bridesmaids star Chris O'Dowd.
Examining the little evidence that this clip presents, my guess is that this scene takes place very early in the film before Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has made his way back to Earth to be back with Jane (Portman). But exactly is it that Erik (Stellan Skarsgard) and Darcy (Dennings) have found on that "malfunctioning" machine? Is it something that could indicate the return of the God of Thunder? Or is it something more of the scary variety?
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this clip isn't its content but rather the atmosphere it's being released in. Over the last month or so there's been a surprising number of stories that have surfaced addressing the issue that Marvel Studios has yet to develop a solo superhero film about a female superhero (this coverage has included quotes from both producer Louis D'Esposito and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige). Yes, this clip doesn't exactly involve any big stunts or choreographed fights, but what it does show is a conversation about two women discussing science - not boys or gossip - in an awkward but comical situation. This is Marvel's marketing reaching out to the female audience, a hopefully they will soon take that one step further and give us a Captain Marvel movie (or something similar).
In addition to all the names mentioned above, Thor: The Dark World also stars Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins. While we've seen many, many clips come out over the last couple weeks, it won't be long until we actually get to see the full thing. Marvel and Disney will have the film in theaters on November 8th.
