Jack Ryan needs to shake off his cob webs because it looks like we're getting closer every day to seeing him back in action. Chris Pine is attached to play the hero, Kenneth Branagh will direct and play the villain, Keira Knightley, Felicity Jones and Evangeline Lilly are being courted to play the female lead, and now it would seem that the Tom Clancy creation has found his newest mentor.
Deadline reports that Kevin Costner has been offered the chance to play a "co-lead" role in the Jack Ryan reboot. While the character will be brand new, the site says that he will be somewhat similar to Admiral Greer of the CIA, who was played by James Earl Jones in Patriot Games. Because the new movie will serve as a prequel, Costner's role would be completely new and apparently there's even a chance that Jones will reprise his role. Should he accept the part, Costner will recruit Ryan and put him on his path.
Also currently sitting on Costner's desk is Three Days to Kill, the new assassin story from Luc Besson's production company. Should he take on the part, the Oscar winner would play Ethan Renner (did Besson fall asleep while watching Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and dream up a name for his newest hero?), a dying government killer who wants to reconnect with his daughter, but has to take on one final mission. McG has shown interest in directing the movie and Relativity Media is on-board as a backer.
Costner recently earmed praise for his performance in the miniseries Hatfields & McCoys and will appear next summer in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.
