Kevin Smith Teases Very Special Plans For Jay And Silent Bob
The cinematic stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob are best known for their appearances in what writer/director Kevin Smith refers to as his "View Askewniverse" movies, but soon the pair may find themselves invading another one of the filmmaker's own cinematic universe. It turns out that the New Jersey director is considering featuring the the two characters in the third chapter of what he's described as his "True North Trilogy" - which would essentially combine the two big screen worlds.
As he has been known to do, Kevin Smith posted a message to fans about the progress of his latest work, and in doing so teased the possibility of having the stoner duo Jay and Silent Bob show up in his upcoming film Moose Jaws (the third in the Canadian trilogy that includes Smith's movie Tusk and the upcoming Yoga Hosers). You can see his post embeded below:
As of now it sounds like the filmmaker is only contemplating the idea of putting Jay and Silent Bob in Moose Jaws, and it will be interesting to see how his fanbase's reaction to the thought will ultimately sway him. The comments section on the post is filled with many people who are enthusiastic about the idea, but there looks like there are just as many who would rather see the True North Trilogy be its own separate thing away from the View Askewniverse (and away from the continuity of movies like Clerks, Dogma, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back).
As the title teases, Moose Jaws is basically going to be Jaws with a moose instead of shark, and it will, like Tusk and Yoga Hosers, be set in Canada. There aren't really any more details about it beyond that, if not only because - as noted above - Kevin Smith is still in the midst of writing the script. If the writer/director does decide to include Jay and Silent Bob (played by Jason Mewes and himself, respectively) in a cameo, it 's easy to see how they could be worked in - possibly as on-lookers to the titular moose's carnage.
Even if Kevin Smith ultimately decides to keep Jay and Silent Bob out of Moose Jaws, fans will be happy to know that the characters are coming back very soon. They will be prominently featured in Mallrats 2 - which is now going by the title Mallbrats. The movie is going to be filming this summer, and while no release plans have been announced at this point, we'll probably see the finished product in theaters sometime next year.
