A Key Marvel Villain Wants To Be In The Next Avengers Movie
Marvel Studios has created the most comprehensive and cohesive cinematic universe ever committed to film; that much is really not up for debate. Between film, television, and Netflix properties, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has become densely populated by some fantastic characters over the last eight years – both heroic and villainous. Now it seems that the most recently added villain to the Marvel roster wants to make the jump from small to silver screen.
While speaking with Vanity Fair, actor David Tennant opened up regarding how he would love to see his character Kilgrave from Jessica Jones square off against Earth’s mightiest heroes in an Avengers film:
While Tennant seems to have an immense desire to join the greater MCU, he also understands that certain tonal inconsistencies may prevent that from ever happening. While The Avengers have most certainly encountered evil during their years as heroes, the style and tone of Marvel’s Netflix properties may not exactly mesh with what fans have come to expect on the big screen territory of the MCU.
Check out the clip from Jessica Jones below to see just the sort of dreary places Tennant’s Kilgrave will take the series:
That being said, the MCU does seem to be heading towards generally darker territory with the coming Captain America: Civil War, so it remains entirely plausible that things could change in such a way that Kilgrave would feel right at home in an Avengers movie.
Marvel must be doing something right, because this is not the first time that a member of their small screen universe has expressed a desire to join The Avengers in a movie. Charlie Cox – who wowed audiences earlier this year as Matt Murdock in Daredevil – has similarly stated that he wants a chance to join the ranks of The Avengers at some point in the future. If Marvel decides to heed these requests, it could lead to some moments of serious fan service, such as having Jon Bernthal’s Punisher steal some equipment from Tony Stark (ala Mark Millar’s Civil War), or having Tom Holland’s Spider-Man face off against Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk.
For now you can catch David Tennant as Kilgrave on Jessica Jones. The series premieres today on Netflix, just in time for a full weekend of glorious Marvel binge watching.
