Killing Them Softly Inspires Three New Mondo Posters
When it comes to cool modern movie posters, few if any, have a leg up on Mondo. The Austin, Texas-based art company regularly has its artists commissioned to create pieces for upcoming films, and their designs are just about always better than anything the studio comes up with. This time The Weinstein Company has hired the folks at Mondo to create three new one-sheets for the gangster movie Killing Them Softly, and while the previous posters for the film were all pretty cool themselves, these definitely have them beat.
The artwork comes to us from Moviefone and it's a shame that the article doesn't mention the artists because they deserve some applause. Two of the designs are incredibly simple, but well done (the business card is my favorite of the trio), while the third almost feels like a riff on standard movie posters but with a great hardcore sensibility.
Directed by Andrew Dominick, who broke out with The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford in 2007, the new movie is set in the wake of two fledgling criminals who manage to successfully rob a card game that's being held by the mob. In order to find the parties responsible, the crime syndicate brings in Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt), a professional enforcer, to investigate the case. The brilliant cast also includes Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, James Gandolfini, Vincent Curatola, Richard Jenkins, Ray Liotta, and Sam Shepard. While we're a few months removed from the title's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, the title will finally be arriving in theaters on November 30th.
