I don’t mind saying that I’m a big fan of Greg Kinnear. Well, I do sort of mind it, since he started out on that idiotic “Talk Soup” show and always seemed like a smarmy asswipe. But he has been consistently good in movies like As Good as It Gets, Auto-Focus, and Little Miss Sunshine and has won me over. The bastard. Now the Hollywood Reporter says that he will team up with Ricky Gervais in a supernatural comedy, Ghost Town.
Gervais, of course, has never been an asswipe, although he did play one in the original BBC version of “The Office.” He also created and starred-in “Extras” on HBO, which once featured Kate Winslet giving phone-sex tips. He seems to be focusing on fantasy- type films, as he recently appeared in Night at the Museum and will have a role in the upcoming Stardust.
Ghost Town is about a dentist who briefly dies during surgery and is able to see dead people who ask him for help. It all sounds very M. Night, but with the two leads the emphasis will likely be on the humor rather than chills. The movie will be directed by David Koepp who is a much sought after screenwriter (Spider-Man, War of the Worlds, and the fourth Indiana Jones movie) but hasn’t has as much luck with the directing thing. His last outing was the 2004 thriller Secret Window. But he certainly has a crackerjack cast to start with this time out.
