The classic David Carradine television series "Kung Fu" is about to have their legend continued. In the 90s the franchise spawned a series of low-budget TV shows about Carradine's character and his son, but now Allen and Albert Hughes are completely remaking it and turning it into a movie for Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures.
Variety says the Hughes brothers have a script by Howard Friedlander but Cory Goodman, who most recently adapted the graphic novel Priest into an upcoming feature film, is rewriting it.
Apparently this is a project that's been kicking around for awhile. The Hughes have been after the gig for two years now, in heavy competition with other big name, current directors.
They say the Zen spirit of Carradine will be preserved in the movie, but I don't see how that's possible without Carradine himself. Of course he's now much too old to play that role, but he is that role. It's not just some character anyone can step into. Carradine is that monk, it seems wrong to let anyone else attempt some sort of freakish impersonation of him.
