Thomas Jane may have ditched Punisher 2 and taken his dignity with him, but it doesn’t look like that has killed the unnecessary superhero movie sequel. JoBlo says that even though they’ve lost their lead actor, Punisher 2 has a director.
They’ve hired Lexi Alexander, whom JoBlo briefly confuses with former JoBlo beat writer turned Cinema Blend superstar (eat your heart out JoBlo) Lexi Feinberg. They’re not the same, our Lexi is better. Lexi Alexander is no slouch either however. She directed the much loved movie Green Street Hooligans and managed to turn cuddly Elijah Wood into a total badass. If she can do that, maybe there’s a little hope for Punisher 2 after all.
But let’s not go crazy here. This is still the Punisher franchise we’re talking about. As JoBlo rightly points out, there’s pretty good reason to expect this thing skip theaters and to rocket straight to DVD. If that’s the case, having Lexi Alexander stuck directing it would be kind of disappointing. After her great work on Hooligans, she deserves better projects.
