Machete Kills Shows Off Its Ridiculous Ensemble In Its Latest Poster
This has already been a great year for ensemble films, with Fast & Furious 6, This Is The End, Lee Daniels' The Butler and Now You See Me all pulling in some big bucks over the summer, and next month Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills will be joining that last. The movie's outrageous, weird cast includes Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sophia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Mel Gibson, Demian Bechir, Lady Gaga and more - and somehow they've squeezed them all into the film's latest poster, which comes to us via Fandango.
Really studying this design you'll notice that there are a few mysterious details that can't quite be explained. For starters, who is the guy standing over the title in the luchador mask duel-wielding purple lightsabers? Also, who is the woman standing to the left of Vergara and Alexa Vega on the right hand side? And where is Jessica Alba?
While this isn't exactly the most beautiful movie poster ever created - it could certainly be a lot better if it were painted instead of just Photoshopped - but I do at least appreciate that it's different from all of the other posters that we've seen thus far, which have all been singular character posters (many of which had their images cut out and pasted on to this new one). When you have an ensemble this big and awesome you should want to show it off as much as possible, and a poster like this latest one is the best way to do that.
Originally Machete Kills was supposed to be released next weekend, on September 13th, but it got pushed back to October 4th when it was revealed back in June that the Sin City sequel wouldn't be coming out until 2014. At the very least this will give the folks at Open Road Films more time to market the movie and release new posters like the one above and trailers like the one that you see below:
The film, scripted by Kyle Ward based on a story by Robert and Marcel Rodriguez, begins as Machete (Trejo) is called upon by the President of the United States (Sheen) for a dangerous mission. A psychotic arms dealer (Gibson) has set up shop down in Mexico, and the titular hero has to stop hime before he is able to launch a weapon into space. In addition to all the names mentioned above the movie also features Vanessa Hudgens, Antonio Banderas, Cuba Gooding Jr., and William Sadler.
