March of the Foxes
A new wild animal is ready to end the cinematic reign of the penguin. They enjoyed loads of attention and money in 2005, and now it’s time to move over and share the spotlight.
According to Hollywood Reporter, director Luc Jacquet (March of the Penguins) has selected The Fox & The Child as his next project. The story centers around a young girl and her friendship with a fox. The movie will combine a fictionalized story with nature documentary footage, which has become his trademark.
The Fox & The Child will be narrated by an adult female, telling the story as a memoir of her youth. Jacquet was inspired to write the story due to a nostalgic encounter he had with a fox at age 10, and a similar meeting featured in the classic children’s book “The Little Prince”.
Production will occur in France, Italy, and Romania, and is scheduled to begin shooting in March and wrap up in December 2007. The budget will be over $13 million. If the film earns anywhere near the $77 million domestic box office it acquired for March of the Penguins, Jacquet should have plenty to trot about.
