Marvel's Captain America Short Agent Carter Teases New Images
One of the biggest problems with the ending of Captain America: The First Avenger is that by moving Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) to modern times, Marvel left Cap’s love interest Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in the past. Though there have been suggestions that we might see a much older Carter in The Winter Soldier, Marvel knows that they need to tap into Atwell as a viable action hero in her prime. And they’re planning on doing so with a standalone short film, part of the One-Shot series, called Agent Carter.
EW has an extensive preview ahead of a planned San Diego Comic-Con premiere at an undisclosed location. Here’s what we already know. The short film will debut Friday, and also will be included on the Iron Man 3 DVD, due out in September. The short will take place one year after Rogers has been frozen in ice, with Carter (Atwell) working for the SSR, or Strategic Scientific Reserve – an early mode of S.H.I.E.L.D. According to Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito:
As for Carter, D’Esposito says that she’s tracking a mysterious MacGuffin called Zodiac, which some bad dudes have obtained. But she’s also staring down a sexist government that isn’t comfortable with strong female protagonists fighting for freedom. Wait until they get a load of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow.
Earlier, Collider Tweeted that Atwell planned to be in San Diego for Comic-Con, making it likely that Marvel will screen Agent Carter during its Saturday night panel, leading into a discussion about next year’s The Winter Soldier. To tide you over, EW has more photos from the short. We’ll be in Hall H for the Marvel panel next week, and will bring you all of the up to date details on future Marvel One-Shot clips. Stay tuned!
