Marvel Still Has Major Plans For Daredevil And The Punisher
Every news item out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe hit machine doesn’t have to involve an Avenger. In fact, while working the publicity circuit on behalf of Thor: The Dark World, Marvel President Kevin Feige hinted that a couple of heroes who have already had their shot at big-screen success might circle back around again before too long.
Feige spoke with multiple outlets during Thor’s London press days, but it was Bleeding Cool who asked him about two specific comic-book characters who only came back to Marvel Studios within the last few years. "We’re trying to figure out what to do with Daredevil now, Punisher could show up at one point," the Marvel executive told the site."You know, once we get characters back into the Marvel fold we don’t want to do something right away, we want to do the smart thing at the smart time.”
The unique thing about both of those characters is that Marvel can look back at past efforts to see what other studios got right, and what went horribly wrong. Both Daredevil and The Punisher appeared in their own standalone films - with varying levels of success each time out.
I’d argue that Punisher War Zone with Ray Stevenson came as close to realizing Frank Castle as any Marvel movie has to date, so there are definitely elements that can be built on.
The good news that also comes with this story is that Daredevil and The Punisher are both characters that usually stand out when teamed with other Marvel characters... most notably Spider-Man. They’ve even fought each other in certain storylines. Maybe there will be a Daredevil-Punisher team-up/fight movie?
